MEPCO BILL CORRECTION

MEPCO Bill Correction Process – Fix Wrong Meter Reading & Overbilling

You can check your MEPCO bill online through our bill checking page.

1. Manual Meter Reading Error

2. Estimated Billing

3. Faulty Electricity Meter

If your meter is damaged or running fast, read our MEPCO Meter Replacement Guide.

4. Data Entry Mistake

Once a meter reader collects the reading, it gets entered into the MEPCO billing system. A typo or data entry error at this stage can produce an incorrect bill even if the original reading was correct.

5. Previous Balance Carried Forward Incorrectly

6. Wrong Tariff Category Applied

MEPCO applies different tariff slabs depending on whether your connection is domestic, commercial, or agricultural. If your connection has been wrongly categorized, you could be paying a higher rate per unit than you should be.

Step 1 – Read Your Meter Carefully

Go to your electricity meter and note the exact reading shown on the display. Write it down with the date and time. This is your ground truth — the number that should match what MEPCO has recorded.

Step 2 – Compare With Your Bill

Look at your electricity bill and find the “present reading” and “previous reading” fields. Calculate the difference — that is the number of units you have supposedly consumed. Compare this with what your meter actually shows. If there is a clear mismatch, you have strong grounds for a MEPCO bill correction complaint.

Step 3 – Gather Your Evidence

Before visiting any office, collect the following:

  • A clear, well-lit photograph of your electricity meter showing the current reading
  • Your current electricity bill (original or printed copy)
  • Your CNIC (original and a photocopy)
  • Your last 2 to 3 previous bills if available — these show your normal consumption pattern and strengthen your case

Step 4 – Write a Complaint Application

You will need to submit a written application at the MEPCO office. Keep it simple and factual.

Step 5 – Visit Your Nearest MEPCO Subdivision Office

Step 6 – Wait for the Verification Officer

  • Check the current meter reading on-site
  • Inspect the meter for any signs of malfunction
  • Review your consumption history in the MEPCO system
  • Compare the reading with what was recorded in the billing cycle

Step 7 – Receive Your Corrected Bill

You can also contact MEPCO through their Mepco helpline numbers to register your complaint.

A lot of people wonder what actually happens after they submit their complaint — and honestly, the process is more thorough than most people expect. Once your application is logged, MEPCO sends a field officer to your address to check the meter in person.
